Agency Spotlight is a series highlighting our partners using Swell to push the boundaries of ecommerce. Today we're talking to Half Helix about their experience using the platform.
About Half Helix
Half Helix partners with some of the most notable ecommerce companies in the world. Their team of designers, developers, and technologists create renowned digital experiences — among them are Peloton's apparel store and Chrissy Teigen's ecommerce brand: Cravings.
We caught up with Managing Director Mac King to discuss how they built Prior World, a luxury travel and membership platform with Swell.
Tell us about the challenges you were facing before using Swell.
Mac King: Before Swell, we hadn't encountered an ecommerce platform that gave us the flexibility that some of our clients needed for their specific business cases. Our engineers love working with a canvas-like Swell, that can accommodate a variety of online business needs.
Why did you decide to use Swell?
As a development team, we often are met with challenges or limitations with ecommerce platforms and APIs. With Swell, the API provides limitless opportunities to extend the functionality of the core platform. On a recent build, we were able to extend Swell to handle complex inventory validation rules for a travel and experience-based site. On other platforms, this may have been impossible.
The infrastructure that Swell provides was a key reason we decided to work with the platform. Anything is possible.
Which upcoming features are you excited for?
Algolia & Yotpo Integrations. We leverage these technologies quite a bit for our merchants. Also, native integrations give prospective clients peace of mind knowing they will have access to proven, well-known solutions while opting to use a newer, up-and-coming platform.
The new metadata and ability to edit platform-level models is unseen anywhere before. This means for custom data, or flow we don't need to leverage middleware or external databases. It's a game-changer.
